Shepherd’s Pie-How did you make this

Shepherd's pie is considered a classic comfort food that originated in the United Kingdom. It is traditionally made with ground lamb, vegetables, and mashed potatoes. The dish is simple yet hearty and is perfect for a cozy night in or a family dinner.

Ingredients:

1 pound ground lamb (or beef)

1 onion, chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 carrots, peeled and diced

1 cup frozen peas

2 tablespoons tomato paste

1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

1 teaspoon dried thyme

1 teaspoon dried rosemary

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon black pepper

3 cups mashed potatoes (homemade or store-bought)

1/2 cup grated cheddar cheese

Instructions:

Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).

In a large skillet, cook the ground lamb over medium heat until browned, stirring occasionally to break up any large clumps. Trim off any excess fat and collect the entire lamb on a plate.

In the same skillet, add the chopped onion and diced carrots. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the vegetables are soft and the onion is translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute.

Add the cooked lamb back to the skillet with the vegetables. Add the frozen peas, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, rosemary, salt, and black pepper. Stir to combine everything well.

Transfer the lamb mixture to a 9-inch (23 cm) baking dish.

Spread the mashed potatoes over the lamb mixture, using a spatula to smooth it out evenly. Sprinkle grated Cheddar cheese over it.

Bake for 25-30 minutes until the cheese is melted and the edges are golden brown.

Before serving the Shepherd's Pie, allow it to cool for a few minutes.  Then enjoy!

Variations:

If you don't have ground lamb, you can easily substitute ground beef. This is sometimes called Cottage Pie instead of Shepherd's Pie.

You can also substitute different vegetables depending on what you have on hand. Some good options include corn, green beans, or diced bell peppers.

For a vegetarian version, you can use lentils instead of lamb and vegetable broth instead of beef broth. Top with mashed sweet potatoes instead of regular potatoes for a tasty twist.

To make this dish ahead of time, prepare the lamb mixture and mashed potatoes separately. Store them in the refrigerator until you're ready to assemble and bake the Shepherd's Pie.
