Lasagna is a classic Italian dish that is enjoyed all over the world. It is a layered pasta dish that is typically made with layers of pasta, tomato sauce, cheese, and meat. However, there are many variations of lasagna that can be made with different ingredients. In this recipe, we will be making a traditional lasagna with meat sauce and ricotta cheese. This recipe serves 8-10 people and takes approximately 2 hours to prepare and cook.
Ingredients:
1 pound lasagna noodles
1 pound ground beef
1 pound Italian sausage
1 large onion, diced
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
1 can (6 oz) tomato paste
2 teaspoons dried basil
2 teaspoons dried oregano
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
1 cup water
2 cups ricotta cheese
2 large eggs, beaten
1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped
4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated parmesan cheese
Instructions:
Preheat your oven to 375°F.
Boil salted water in a large pot. Add the lasagna noodles and cook for 8-10 minutes, or until al dente. Drain the noodles and rinse them with cold water to stop the cooking process. Set aside.
In a large skillet or Dutch oven, cook the ground beef and Italian sausage over medium-high heat until browned and cooked through. Drain any excess grease.
Add the diced onion and minced garlic to the skillet and sauté until the onion is soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, dried basil, dried oregano, salt, black pepper, and red pepper flakes (if using) to the skillet. Stir to combine.
Add the water to the skillet and bring the sauce to a simmer. Now reduce the flame and let the sauce boil for 25-30 minutes while stirring occasionally.
While the sauce is simmering, make the ricotta cheese mixture. In a large bowl, combine the ricotta cheese, beaten eggs, chopped parsley, and chopped basil. Mix well.
To assemble lasagna, spread a thin layer of meat sauce in the bottom of a 9x13-inch baking dish. Place a layer of lasagna noodles on top of the sauce, slightly overlapping each noodle.
Spread a layer of the ricotta cheese mixture over the noodles, followed by a layer of shredded mozzarella cheese.
Repeat the layers of sauce, noodles, ricotta cheese mixture, and mozzarella cheese until all the ingredients are used up, ending with a layer of sauce on top.
Sprinkle the grated parmesan cheese over the top of the lasagna.
Cover the baking dish with foil, close it and bake the lasagna for 22-25 minutes.
Remove the foil and bake the lasagna for an additional 25-30 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the lasagna is hot and cooked through.
Wait for the lasagna to cool for 15-20 minutes before cutting and serving.
This lasagna recipe is sure to be a hit with your family and friends. It can be served with a side salad and garlic bread for a complete meal. Any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or frozen for up to 3 months. Enjoy!
