 Classic American Burger Recipe

Here is a recipe for a classic American burger that serves 4 people.

Ingredients:

2 lb ground beef (85% lean, 15% fat)

1 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon black pepper

4 hamburger buns

4 slices of cheese (optional)

Toppings of your choice (lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, etc.)

Condiments of your choice (ketchup, mustard, mayo, etc.)

Instructions:

Start by preheating your grill or a large skillet over medium-high heat.

In a large mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper. Use your hands to mix everything together until the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the meat.

Divide the beef mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each portion into a patty. Make sure the patties are slightly larger than the buns, as they will shrink a bit as they cook.

Place the patties on the grill or skillet and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, or until they are browned and cooked to your desired level of doneness.

If you are adding cheese to your burgers, place a slice of cheese on top of each patty during the last minute of cooking to allow it to melt.

While the burgers are cooking, prepare your buns and toppings. Toast the buns on the grill or in a toaster until they are lightly browned. Slice your toppings and set them aside.

Once the burgers are done cooking, remove them from the heat and let them rest for a few minutes. This allows the juices to redistribute throughout the meat and helps keep the burgers juicy.

Assemble your burgers by placing a patty on the bottom half of each bun, followed by your desired toppings and condiments. {Finish with the top half of the bun.}

Serve your burgers immediately and enjoy!

Tips:

Don't overwork the meat when mixing and shaping the patties. This can make the burgers tough.

Use a meat thermometer to check the optimum temperature of that burger.  The USDA calls for ground beef to be cooked to an internal temperature of 160°F (71°C) for preservation.

If you don't have a grill or skillet, you can also cook the burgers in the oven on a baking sheet at 400°F (204°C) for 12-15 minutes, flipping once halfway through cooking.

Experiment with different toppings or condiments to find your perfect burger combination. Some popular options include bacon, avocado, jalapenos, and BBQ sauce.
